ONE OF A KIND
Uno is a one of a kind rapper and saxophone player, who has been playing the saxophone for now 20 years and started rapping at the age of 15, on the streets of Montreal’s Little Burgundy, the neighbourhood where he grew up and was first introduced to hip-hop culture.
Inspired by his brother A1 Smoke, a self-taught rapper and producer who regularly held jam sessions in his mom’s basement that attracted the neighborhood’s aspiring rappers, deejays, and artists , among them was the late great local legend Bad News Brown ( 1997-2011).
From age 11 to 16 Jay gained stage experience while playing sax in the Jah Youth Band, a local reggae group that played for Montreal’s first international reggae festival in 2006.
For eight years Jay put his saxophone aside to focus on his rap career, doing shows at historic Montreal venues like Theatre Corona and the Belmont.
Now incorporating the jazz/blues sound that is associated with the saxophone into modern and old school Hip-Hop , Jay Uno delivers a truly unique sound which he displays in his debut E.P. : Street Bluez .
